Collioure
Collioure,
or as locals call it Cotllures, is a ‘must visit’ beautiful coastal
town of about 2500 inhabitants. It is in many ways unspoiled except for the
number of tourists who flock there. Collioure was ‘discovered’
by the artists Matisse and Derain in the early 1900’s, and was favoured
by Picasso’s. The town continues to have a strong pull for artists.
Collioure has 3 small stretches of sand. The church of Notre-Dame-des-Anges in built on a small peninsular, where it is said that you can hear the sound of the waves inside the church.
Collioure's market day is Thursday.
